India Geography

India is washed by the Arabian Sea on the west, the Bay of Bengal on the east, and the Indian Ocean to the south. Broadly the physical features of India can be divided into five physical units - The Great Mountains of the North, The North Indian Plain, The Peninsular Plateau, The Coastal Plains, and The Islands. The Himalayan Mountains separate India from much of the rest of Asia and China, the tallest mountain in India is the Kanchenjunga. West India contains the states of Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, and part of Madhya Pradesh. South India begins with the Deccan in the north and ends with Cape Comorin. The climate of the country depends not only on the time of year, but also on the location.
